As the fourth operation in the Ash Bash event series, ABIV attempted to expand on the ABIII game design by extrapolating and refining it to work on a much larger scale. Hosted on several dozen acres of private land with multiple terrain challenges (orchards, nearly impassable rivers, and MOUT-style villages), SOTA designed a three-way firefight over seven sectors that also functioned as spawn points. In addition, SOTA implementented missile strike capability by allowing the three teams to fight over control of two separate missile bases.
Over two-dozen supplementary missions ranging from planting and detonating mock explosives to gathering intel to assassinating team commanders were given to three Special Operations teams of 8-12 operators. These missions were available only to the SpecOps forces and essentially created a second miniature game within the larger event.
Hosted in early March event attendees were met with fierce rain and wind, which also impacted overall attendance to some degree. However, the 110 participants that showed were impressed with the game design and by the involvement and accessibility of the game administrators. Indeed, SOTA had over a dozen admins present including embedded player-admins with each SpecOps team and admins stationed at each of the seven spawns and two missile bases.
This was the first game operated by then newly-established SOTA, LLC. Airsoft Outlet NW donated several fantastic prizes including two rifles and multiple accessories from Magpul. AirsoftAmmoSupply also contributed raffle prizes and was on-hand to provide BBs and other last-minute items to players. |
